May Musings

Hey friends!

It’s officially May, which means we are a quarter of the way through the year! I thought this might be a good time to revisit some of my goals for 2017. In some ways, I have impressed myself so far. I have managed to stay fairly organized and I have been taking pretty good care of myself. I have been (carefully) stepping out of my comfort zone and looking for opportunities to learn and grow and experience new things.  Continue reading

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter, friends!

I’ve been away for the past week and haven’t kept up with my posting schedule. For that, I apologize, but I will make it up in the coming weeks with a few extra posts!

Three refuels, a few playlists, some chicken strips, Veggie Straws and a ferry ride later, my boyfriend is now officially living back on Vancouver Island. We drove out last Sunday and I spent the week out there before returning home to work on Friday. There are exciting things coming his way, and I’m really looking forward to what the future holds. Nothing is going to be easy, but nothing that’s worth it ever really is. Continue reading

Spring Cleaning Routine

It’s officially April (which it was in my last post, too, but let’s ignore that), and it is really beginning to feel like Spring! Everything outside smells fresh and it is so rejuvenating to take a deep breath of the warming air. As Mother Nature is revealing her grass and fresh buds from under blankets of snow, it’s the perfect time to follow her lead and clear out the dust and clutter that has been accumulating in our homes! I always talk about taking time to personally refresh, but our environments need love too! The vibe of your space can truly affect you, so it’s important to maintain an atmosphere that you can thrive in!

Open those windows, have a good little stretch, and let’s get into it: it’s time to clean the house.

What Am I Doing Here? About My Blog

It’s been just over two and a half months since I started posting here, and I realized that I’ve never really gone into detail about why I started blogging or what I’m hoping to get from it.I’ve made mention of the fact that I’m a little unsure of the direction I’d like to take my blog, but like I said in that post, that’s accurate for my life as well. If this is my art, life is imitating it and it’s imitating my life. But what am I really doing here?

Luck o’ the Irish

As anyone who knows me well can tell you (or if you noticed around Valentine’s), I love any excuse to be festive. And the third festive event of the calendar year is, of course, St. Patrick’s Day! It also happens to be the birthday of one of my dear friends, so there has always been more than one reason to celebrate, and definitely a party to be had 😉

This year, however, I may not be able to get into a bar after work (what with the crowds and lines etc), so the festivities on my end are going to be quite low-key (perhaps a green nail polish and some gold eyeshadow). But I got to thinking about something other than green beer: “The Luck O’ the Irish.” Continue reading

Spring Forward

Daylight savings time has once again graced us with an extra hour of sunshine (and an earlier wake-up time). The snow and the cold look to be letting up, and we could be on the homestretch towards spring!

As you all know by now, this year I’m really making an effort to pay attention to myself
and to take time for things that will help me to be the best that I can be. I’ve been itching to get out of the city for a few months, and today I finally took the opportunity to go to the mountains.  Continue reading

International Women’s Day

As I’m sure you’ve heard countless times today, March 8th is International Women’s Day. It’s a day to commemorate the activists and movements that championed and still strive for women’s rights all around the world. From fighting for the right to vote (in stages, because I know full well that it wasn’t (and still isn’t) an immediately equitable process anywhere in the world), to campaigning for the rights of domestic workers and striving for equal pay for equal work, women have a history of seeing injustice and organizing to fight for their rights. It started before First Wave Feminism, and it will continue passed today’s “Wave,” but it’s amazing to see just how many people around the world are willing to join in the movement today. People came out in record breaking numbers to attend Women’s Marches worldwide. Though it’s as contentious a word as ever, most of the people I know call themselves feminists. People are realizing that the Future is Female and that women’s voices are integral in a progressive society.  Continue reading

Daddy’s Girl

As the weekend draws to a close, I have my feet up and I’m reflecting on the past few days.

I work weekends, and today I worked a split shift in the morning and evening, so the weekend has been pretty full. What was different about this weekend was the ample amount of time I spent with my dad. Continue reading

Getting the Ball Rolling

The first of any month always gives me a bit of a boost; a renewed resolve to actually do something with my “blank slate.” Of course, when the calendar changes, be it for a new month or new year, nothing major or tangible actually changes. But I like the idea of something “on paper” to use for accountability and inspiration for getting things done and going after goals or dreams, new ventures and adventures.
