This past week has been a whirlwind of ribbons, fibre optics, and improvisation. Thanks to my dear friend Emily, I had the opportunity to get involved with a local company’s runway gala. MakeFashion creates and supports creators of wearable tech: “high tech meets high fashion.” The show was Saturday night, and since the word “go” last Sunday, I helped out with all sorts of last minute tasks and projects each day. From making shrink-wrapped bundles of fibre optics to make hair extensions and to put into 3D-printed
“mohawk horns” to creating rhinestone-studded LED twinkling chokers and bouts of sewing in between, it was a week of firsts for me. Continue reading
It’s been just over two and a half months since I started posting here, and I realized that I’ve never really gone into detail about why I started blogging or what I’m hoping to get from it.I’ve made mention of the fact that I’m a little unsure of the direction I’d like to take my blog, but like I said in that post, that’s accurate for my life as well. If this is my art, life is imitating it and it’s imitating my life. But what am I really doing here?
It’s that day again! Celebrities are walking the Red Carpet, nominees are trying to not crumple their acceptance speech notes (just in case) and prepping for what could be the biggest moment in their careers, and we’re tuned in from home.
Bottles have been popped, cheese and charcuterie board has been made, and my red-carpet red lip has been applied. I love the spectacle of the Academy Awards. Continue reading
Whether you love it or hate it, Valentine’s Day is right around the corner! Personally, I love celebrating, I love pink and I love love, so I love this holiday!
Luckily, Pinterest loves Valentine’s as well, so I’ve been browsing through whimsical, lovey-dovey heaven for the past two weeks, and I thought I would share some of my favourite ideas to celebrate! Keep in mind, the important thing really is the thought and sentiments behind any sort of gift or gesture, especially on Valentine’s Day! But if you’re looking to make the day a little more special than the 13th or 15th, here are a few ideas.
February 1st! A new month, and with it came my new PAX wardrobe. Not sure how excited I am to be opening and assembling 44 Ikea boxes (!!), but I am really excited to bring some new organization into my life.
A clean room is like a clean slate; a new beginning. While we may have all started to forget (or have long forgotten) our “New Year’s Resolutions,” using the beginning of the month to renew those goals or set new ones can be a great idea. For me, I’m renewing my goal to be more organized.
Here are a few of the steps I’m taking to rein in the chaos:
If you recall from my Goals and Resolutions post, I signed up for a course called Fashion Industry Essentials through Parsons New School of Design and Teen Vogue. My goal is to learn a few ins and outs of the fashion industry and to explore potential career paths. Most people hear “fashion industry” and jump to three professions: designer, model, and boutique owner. But there are so many more options out there: working in marketing, textiles, buying, management, etc.
I completed my first assignment yesterday, so I thought now would be a good time to talk a bit about the program. It’s broken up into five courses:
